# Do locked apps show in CarPlay or call history?

Apple's iPhone User Guide: **information inside a locked app won't appear in other locations, for example in CarPlay, notification previews, search, Siri suggestions, or your call history.**

Some built-in apps can't be locked, including Contacts, Find My, Maps and Settings, so their information isn't covered.

The lock still opens with your passcode, so it keeps out passengers and passers-by, not someone who knows the code.

## Lock a messaging app

1. **Touch and hold the Messages icon.** On the Home Screen, touch and hold the app icon until the quick actions menu opens.
2. **Tap Require Face ID.** Tap **Require Face ID**. iOS 18 or later.
3. **Confirm with Face ID.** Confirm with Face ID or your passcode. From now on the app asks before it opens.

### Will a locked app show messages on CarPlay?

Apple says information inside a locked app won't appear in CarPlay, notification previews, search, Siri suggestions or your call history. Lock the app with Require Face ID on iOS 18 or later and its content stays off the car screen. You open it again on the iPhone with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

### Does locking an app hide calls from my Recents?

Apple lists call history among the places a locked app's information won't appear, so calls made through a locked app are kept out. This applies to apps you can lock; Apple names Contacts, Maps, Find My, Settings and a few other built-in apps as ones that can't be locked.
